Season 2010/11 Royal British Legion Singles The penultimate Grand Prix of the season was held on Sunday afternoon at the Lerwick Legion where 46 men entered the draw all hoping to lift the shield and £250 first prize. With the usual high standard of darts being played in the early rounds it was down to the business end of the competition the quarter finals, game one saw George Smith in fine form beating Gordon Irvine (who had earlier knocked out defending champ Roger Irvine) 4-0, game two saw Richard Hughson win a hard match 4-2 against Barry Couper, game three was a comfortable 4-1 victory for Neal Redfern against Ian Hannah, and in game four David Thomson kept his good run in the tournament going winning 4-0 against Gareth MacRitchie. In the first semi final George was struggling with his doubles which Richard took full advantage of running out a 5-1 winner to reach his first Grand Prix final, in the other semi Neal was in ruthless form whitewashing David 5-0 to end what was a great run in the competition for the youngster. The final was of a very good standard with both players scoring well and finishing when required with the first six legs being shared it was looking like it might go all the way but Neal had other ideas winning the next three to win yet another title 6-3, the difference in the match was probably down to Neal hitting four 180's which included a possible 10 darts leg great darts indeed. In the womens competition 15 ladies entered with Iris Anderson beating Gena Smith in the final, Iris also hit a 180 during the day. Other winners on the day were Gordon Irvine highest checkout 151. Paul Scarsbrook men highest score on charity board (nine darts) 300. Alison Williamson (putting the men to shame) women highest score on charity board (nine darts) 309. Many thanks again to the Lerwick Legion for hosting the tournament and to Iris and Glynis for selling the raffles.
