Season 2010/11

LBC Open

Saturday night saw Whiteness snooker club host the final grand prix of the season LBC Open, with a good turnout of 43 entering the mens draw there was precious inter county points to be had as well as the title and £100 gift voucher. By the quarter final stage there was shattered inter county dreams for some and nerves aplenty for others waiting to find out their fate. First up was two regular grand prix winners with Angus Galbraith sneaking past Neal Redfern 4-3, then two not so well known faces with David Thomson beating Kevin Sutherland by the same score, the third quarter saw local favorite Derek Hunter win 4-1 against Nigel Llewellyn, and finally another two familiar faces with Roger Irvine beating Ronnie Johnson also 4-1. In the semi finals with Roger and Angus at other ends of the draw it looked like the likely final but David played a great game to beat Angus 5-3 and put himself into the final, in the other semi Roger was by no means having things his own way with Derek also playing very well but Roger did just enough to progress 5-4. In the final the long night of darts seemed to catch up with David and he couldn't reach the heights of his earlier play and Roger ran out a 5-1 winner to retain the title he won last year. Roger also won the prize for the highest checkout with a season high 170 beating a 160 earlier in the night from Dougie Goudie. In the ladies competition 17 players entered with Iris Anderson beating Glynis Harcus 4-1 in the final, Iris also had a 180.

The committee would like to thank Pete Molloy and all the bar staff for hosting the event, it went very well and hopefully will be a regular grand prix venue, also Lerwick Building Centre for sponsoring the competition again.
