Season 2010/11 Dianne McDonald Singles After the doubles action on Friday night it was back to singles in the Lerwick Legion on Saturday night for the Diane McDonald singles, there was an entry of 39 for this years competition. There was some excellent games in the early rounds with plenty of 180's going in, most notably Barry Couper knocking out last weeks Shetland champ Paul Tait in the last 16. In the quarter-finals Barry continued his good form beating Dougie Goudie 4-2, George Smith beat David John Anderson 4-1, Neal Redfern won through against Iain Blance 4-1 and Tommy Williamson's good run of form came to an end losing 4-1 to Roger Irvine. The first semi-final George was in clinical form winning 5-0 against Barry, while Roger's sharper finnishing saw him through 5-1 against Neal. In the final Roger started well winning the first three legs but as always there is a turning point which was leg four Roger missed a chance at double and George showed his bottle to check out 100 this gave him a huge boost and he won the next three legs to lead 4-3, it was then a see saw affair and reached 5-5 so just like last weeks final it was down to a final leg shootout, George had the throw which as we know is a major advantage as both players came down together George had first throw at the double and made no mistake to take the title and get his name on the trophy after an 18 year wait. (Below winner George Smith and runner up Roger Irvine).
