SHETLAND OPEN SINGLES 2010/11 The SDA Shetland Open Singles was played in the Lerwick Legion on Saturday night, a good round number of 48 entered the draw with dreams of becoming the Shetland Champion the pinnacle of Shetland darts. After the early rounds and some fantastic games the last eight was as follows Tommy Williamson won through 4-1 against teammate Andrew Simpson, Ian Hannah sneaked past Dougie Goudie 4-3 in a very tight game, Paul Tait beat Neal Redfern 4-2, and Roger Irvine eased through 4-0 against Arnold Brown. The first semi saw Ian Hannah up against Tommy Williamson, despite playing great darts to reach the semi Ian couldn't produce the darts that had got him there and lost 5-1.The other semi-final was a real battle between Paul Tait and Roger Irvine, Paul raced into a 4-1 lead only for Roger to claw it back to 4-4, in a tense last leg Roger had a chance at a double the win but when he missed Paul wasn't going to give him another one hitting his double to win his place in the final. In the final Paul hit the bull in the bull up which was to prove vital in the end, Paul started the final like a train averaging 100 in the first three legs (13,15,17) to go 3-0 up, Tommy got a leg on the board in the next but Paul was missing nothing to go 5-1 ahead, with the few spectators left watching thinking it was all but over Tommy relaxed and started a comeback winning the next three legs to make it 5-4 the tenth leg was a nervy affair with both players missing a lot of doubles but Tommy finally hit double one to take it to a decider 5-5, Paul had the darts in the last leg and both players came down equally Tommy hit 138 to leave double four but Paul showed his class checking out 72 on tops which he hardly missed all night to claim the title Shetland Champion! There were high checkouts from Neal Redfern 156, Ian Hannah 153, Davy Riley 121, Tommy Watt 120, Tommy Williamson 110,100. The committee would once again like to thank the Lerwick Legion for hosting the competition, and Glynis Harcus for helping with the draw and presenting the trophy.
