HUGHSON BROS. SHIELD 2011/12. The second Grand Prix of the season took place at Whiteness snooker club on Saturday, only 32 men entered the draw so it didn't take long to get down to the last eight, in the quarters Neal Redfern beat Davy Riley 4-1, Iain Blance won a tight 4-3 against Jim Wood, Andrew Simpson eased through 4-1 .v. Barry Couper and finally Danny Irvine saw off Andy Glen 4-0. In the first semi final Neal was in ruthless form ending Iain's excellent run 5-0, in the other semi there was disappointment for Danny as trailing 3-2 he had to go catch the Whalsay ferry leaving a rather bemused Andrew Simpson through to the final. In the final Andrew played good consistant darts but Neal is proving to be Shetland's version of Phil Taylor winning 5-0 with two 180's, a 13 dart leg, a 100 checkout then winning the match with a bullseye checkout hard to beat indeed. Tommy Watt won the high checkout prize with 147. In the ladies competition only 9 players entered and after two round robin boards Melanie Couper came back from 2-0 down to beat Sandra MacRitchie 3-2. Sandra did hit a 180 in the final. The SDA committee would like to thank Hughson Bros for sponsoring the event and Pete Molloy and the bar staff of Whiteness snooker club for being excellent hosts.
